Explanation of Stats
|
- Certain ships can only be built by certain factions at the beginning of the game. The 'Built By' field
explains which factions may build each ship.
- Almost every single ship in the galaxy has weapons. There are two types of weapons, lasers and
warheads. Lasers cannot be fired while the ship is in hyperspace or is traveling at its full sublight speed.
Warheads cannot be fired in hyperspace, and must be restocked when they run out. Warheads can be
restocked at any shipyard or defense platform.
- Nearly every ship has shields. Shields take damage first before the hull does. When a ship's shields are
at 25% or lower, there is a random chance that weapons fire will pass through a hole in the shields and hit
the hull.
- The crew is the number of NPC's that must be hired to run the ship. The crew number includes both
pilots and gunners.
- The number of passengers that can ride on a ship includes any characters traveling on the ship as well
as NPC fighter pilots that have their fighters in the ship's docking bay.
- Escape pods allow characters and NPC's to escape from a ship that is about to explode. Ten people
can fit into each escape pod. Characters and NPC's are automatically put into escape pods moments
before the ship explodes. Generally most ships do not have enough escape pods for the entire crew and
passengers, so characters are placed in the pods first, followed by random NPC's.
- The length of a starship determines how far it can be found on sensors. The longer a ship is, the farther
away it can be when detected.
- Ship jammers attempt to block sensors of another ship. The more jammers a ship has, the more likely it
is that the ship will not be seen. Jammers work best at far distances and their effects decrease as the two
ships approach each other.
- The maneuver rating of a hip tells how agile it is in space. Higher ratings represent more agile
fighters. It is significantly easier to pilot an agile ship in combat than it is to pilot a less agile ship.
